St. Thomas’ is an Episcopal Parish in the Diocese of Maryland. The Episcopal Church has a long history going back to its founding under Henry VIII of England. We are called “people of the book” because our worship centers around the Book of Common Prayer, a wonderful resource for liturgy, teaching and devotion. Each of our services is based on the Book of Common Prayer (BCP).
Our services are similar to both the Catholic and Lutheran liturgies. The Methodist church was born out of the same roots as we were. Parts of our service will be familiar to Presbyterians, Baptists, and other believers. If you have never been to an Episcopal church, come a few times in a row before you decide whether you like it or not. It takes some time to become familiar with our liturgy, or order of service. But once you are comfortable with our way of worship, you will find a beauty and stability that will feed the deep places of your soul.
